What’s Not to Love About Dwele

Photography by Myles Grayson

The Double Door had a great blend of music performances for Dwele’s show on Friday, December 9th. Lili K was one of the opening acts that caught my full attention. Her sound was like a modern day version of Jazz-Bebop. Her song “Refreshing” was the piece that really went big with the crowd as they sung along to the lyrics “So Refreshing life without you.” Famous was another great crowd pleaser, coming all the way from California to bring Chi-town that west coast flavor. He took us on a road trip as he spit rhymes about life in Venice, California. Chicago’s own Pennjamin Bannekar performed his well known single “ILLwrite” which got him play on MTV this past year.

Chicago is often referred to as the “birthplace of house music,” and Midnight Conspiracy continues to carry this on. Having recently debuted in 2010, Midnight Conspiracy is quickly rising to the forefront of the world’s DJs and represents the Chicago roots of electronic dance music.

Robin Thicke Seduces The Mid

Robin Thicke Performing at The Mid (Chicago)

What girl can resist a suave, sexy man with a sultry voice like Robin Thicke? Apparently, not many. On Monday, December 12th The Mid was sold out and packed with ladies (and a handful of guys…mostly boyfriends/husbands) to see their favorite R&B singer on his 3-week promotional tour for his album “Love After War.” Lines stretched around the block while many fans had waited outside for nearly 2 hours before doors opened. Die-hard fans I must say, considering the 20 degree weather and an outfit choice of skirts and heels for most.

The Mid Presents Fedde le Grand

[cincopa AMPA8w6BNGVi]

With a house music sensation like Fedde Le Grand gracing The Mid with his presence on Saturday, December 10th, it’s no wonder tickets were sold out to this show. Originally from Holland, le Grand is most notable for his 2006 track “Put Your Hands Up For Detroit,” which launched his career overseas and later in the States (see video below). Having his residency in world exclusive venues like The Ministry of Sound London and Pacha Ibiza, this performance was at the top of every Chicagoland fan’s party list. And one thing’s for sure– no one left disappointed.

Dwele to Perform at the Double Door December 9th

Neo-Soul artist Dwele will be performing in Chicago this Friday on December 9th at the Double Door. The Detroit native has been featured on several tracks from Chi-town’s finest Kanye West and Common over the last few years. His most famous collaboration was with the Detroit group Slum Village where he sung the hook for the single “Tainted“. Since then, Dwele has released over four albums including his latest release “W.ants W.orld W.omen“. There is no doubt that Dwele will bring that Detriot soul to the Windy City. Dwele will also be joined by Pennjamin Bannekar, Sir Criss and Cavalier Kidd for a wonderful night – showtime starts at 8 pm.

DJ Chuckie Celebrates Black Wednesday at The Mid

DJ Chuckie, also known as Clyde Narain, kicked off the Holiday Season with a live performance at the MID Night Club. His appearance on Black Wednesday was not the first time this Dutch House producer has come though the MID. He previously made an appearance in January back when the MID was first surfacing in Chicago.

DJ Chuckie has quickly sent himself to the top of the world’s DJs. Coming in with a “dirty dutch” sound, Chuckie drops a violent and wild bassline. His style’s appeal has been displayed by the energy he transfers to his fans, who are in the air for every one of his sets. He even titled one of his most recent releases, “Who is Ready to Jump?” -a track samples recordings from some of his live sets during his tour throughout the summer. This along with many other tracks were heard Wednesday night at the MID. Chuckie threw down hard with tunes like “Radioactive,” “Who is Ready to Jump,” and one of his most recent remixes – “Down for Whatever,” feat. Kelly Rowland.
