Redefining the “Housewife”, one Cocktail at a Time

For the first time in franchise history, Bravo Media brought Housewives from various cities together on one stage for an exclusive experience as the network presented “The Real Housewives Live Tour” last Saturday at The Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, IN. This was the second stop on the three-city tour with the Housewives and Project-Captured had the opportunity to get in on the action.

Under all the drama, makeup and couture, the Real Housewives of Bravo seem to not be too far off from the rest of us. Well, sort of. Since all of their dirty laundry is already aired for all of America to watch, I opted for questions that let us get to know the real characters of this reality T.V.-hit series a bit better. Four housewives, from four different cities were happy to answer all of our questions. Here’s what they had to say:

Gretchen Rossi from Orange County was accompanied by her fiancé Slade Smiley, which the crowd went crazy for. Still trying to figure out who they were more excited to see… As we all know, Gretchen has come out with her own handbag collection. She is working on the new collection and bringing back last seasons’ due to such high demand. She also created a Special Edition bag for Breast Cancer awareness in her favorite color, pink. Since Gretchen’s on a plane every weekend, her main inspiration for her collections is her travels. As an avid traveler myself, I was dying to know her go-to destination. She didn’t blink twice before she told us Tahiti-Bora Bora. I have to agree with Gretchen on this one. Gretchen’s final tip of advice to younger generation women out there, “Don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t do it. Just go for it”.

Even though Phaedra Parks of Atlanta has visited Chicago many times, she says she still can’t get over how nice people are here and how much good food there is to choose from. She was looking forward to getting some Giordano’s pizza before she headed back to Atlanta…or was it Lou Malnatis? Guess we will never know. Phaedra’s personality rang true to her garb that evening- dressed head-to-toe in royal purple. I picked her brain on how she made it to where she is today and what advice she had for younger women. “Be confident in your abilities- your ability has to be matched with your skill set and your skill set has to be backed up by education. Education is key”, Phaedra says. She falls nothing short of her own advice, as a powerhouse and successful managing partner in a law firm.

Looking fabulously fresh in her gold beaded cocktail frock, Sonja Morgan of New York City is a huge advocate for GLAAD: Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. She recently participated in a GLAAD event and was excited to share with us some of the details of the party. Honored to present the award to American Airlines for their Beach Towel Program, Rock Vodka, and Allstate, Sonja looks forward to future events with GLAAD. When we asked her about what inspires her, Sonja told us that anything and everything and of course love. How can we argue with that? You can catch Sonja wearing hats throughout the cold weather season- this is her “must” fall trend. Above all, Sonja tells us to “be yourself”.

New Jersey’s housewife, Kathy Wakile, visited the Windy City for the first time on the Housewives Tour and we just had to know where she dined during her stay. Chicago Chop House made the cut. Kathy shared with us her inspiration for her own cooking: the Mediterranean of course. Since her husband is Lebanese and she is full-blooded Italian, her cooking reflects the best of both worlds in her family. Kathy complimented our city, saying she was surprised to find that “Chicago has a lot of foodies”. We hope you she comes back and really discovers how great this city is, food and all.

Despite their differences, each housewife shared one thing in common — they all loved Chicago. Who doesn’t? So we knocked back a few cocktails with the housewives and got to know the true dirt on each one of them…which surprisingly wasn’t all that dirty at all.
